Pine Ozokerite for Heat Applications
Pine Ozokerite is a product for local heat applications based on natural ozokerite with pine extract. It is used for warming muscles, joints and specific areas of the body in physiotherapy, balneotherapy and rehabilitation procedures.
What is Ozokerite?
Ozokerite, also known as mountain wax, is a naturally occurring mineral substance of petroleum origin with a wax-like structure. It contains paraffinic hydrocarbons, mineral oils, resins and other naturally occurring components.
Due to its high heat capacity and low thermal conductivity, ozokerite accumulates heat and releases it gradually, providing prolonged and even warming of the tissues.
As ozokerite cools, it solidifies and slightly contracts, creating an additional compression effect. This combination of thermal and compression effects is the basis for the use of ozokerite in thermotherapy, physiotherapy and rehabilitation.
Pine extract complements the formula and gives the product its characteristic pine aroma.
Effects of Ozokerite Applications
Heat procedures with ozokerite are used for:
- prolonged local warming;
- muscle relaxation;
- supporting local blood circulation;
- reducing muscle spasms;
- reducing pain and discomfort;
- supporting tissue recovery processes;
- providing thermal and compression effects in the application area.
Ozokerite therapy provides local thermal and compression effects and has traditionally been used in physiotherapy and health-resort treatment.
When is Ozokerite Used?
Ozokerite applications are used in physiotherapy, rehabilitation and health-resort practice as part of comprehensive programs for chronic and subacute conditions when heat therapy is not contraindicated.
Areas in which ozokerite therapy may be used include:
- joints and spine: arthritis outside the acute stage, osteoarthritis, osteochondrosis, bursitis, myositis, tenosynovitis, contractures and consequences of musculoskeletal injuries;
- nervous system: neuritis, neuralgia, radiculopathy and consequences of injuries affecting peripheral nerves and the spinal cord;
- ENT and respiratory system: certain chronic conditions outside the acute stage;
- digestive system: in physiotherapy practice, ozokerite therapy may be included in comprehensive programs for certain chronic gastrointestinal conditions;
- gynecology and urology: ozokerite heat procedures may be included in comprehensive physiotherapy and health-resort programs for certain chronic conditions;
- rehabilitation: recovery programs following injuries and for certain consequences of musculoskeletal and peripheral nervous system disorders.
Ozokerite applications are not a substitute for the primary treatment of a medical condition. If you have a chronic medical condition, the suitability, application area and heat therapy regimen should be discussed with a healthcare professional.
Directions for Use
Before use, melt the ozokerite in a water bath.
Layering method. Apply melted ozokerite at 55–60 °C to the skin using a flat brush, then cover with compress paper and insulate the area to retain heat.
Ozokerite bath method. After applying the initial layer, place the hand or foot into an oilcloth bag containing melted ozokerite at 60–65 °C.
Gauze application method. Apply pads made of 8–10 layers of gauze soaked in melted ozokerite that has begun to cool. Place additional pads soaked in warmer ozokerite at 65–70 °C over them, then cover the area with oilcloth and insulate it.
Tray application method. Pour melted ozokerite into a tray approximately 5 cm deep lined with medical oilcloth. Once the ozokerite has cooled to 50–54 °C, remove the formed application together with the oilcloth, place it on the required area of the body and insulate it.
Procedure duration: 30–60 minutes.
Frequency: daily or every other day.
Course: 15–20 procedures.
Repeat course: after 3–4 months following consultation with a healthcare professional.
Important Information
The layer of ozokerite that comes into direct contact with the skin should be at a relatively low temperature of 50–55 °C. This helps protect the skin from hotter layers of ozokerite and reduces the risk of burns.
Do not apply excessively hot ozokerite directly to the skin.
Before first use, it is recommended to check individual tolerance to the product components.
Reusing Ozokerite
Ozokerite can be reused. Before reuse, heat the previously used ozokerite to 90–100 °C for 30–40 minutes and add up to 20% fresh ozokerite.
Used ozokerite should be cleaned while melted by filtering it through 2–3 layers of gauze.
If the reused ozokerite becomes brittle or crumbly, petroleum jelly oil may be added to the mass.
Contraindications
Do not use in case of individual sensitivity to ozokerite or other product components.
Heat procedures with ozokerite are contraindicated in acute inflammatory and infectious conditions, severe atherosclerosis, coronary heart disease, liver cirrhosis, thyrotoxicosis, certain tumors and cysts, progressive diseases of the nervous system and other conditions in which heat therapy is contraindicated.
During pregnancy and breastfeeding, as well as in the presence of chronic medical conditions, consult a healthcare professional before use.
Storage Conditions
Store in the original packaging in a dry place protected from light and out of reach of children at a temperature not exceeding 25 °C.
